1 · TAMLYN AKINS · watercolor, pastel, origami, jewelry

Tamlyn Akins

I am an artist with many interests. Among my specialties are florals, animal portraits, naturescapes, and mandalas (circular, symetrical designs). In addition to fine art media, I enjoy creating jewelry and origami forms.

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and have known since before I could sign my name that I would become an artist. In 1980 I received my BFA with High Distinction in Drawing from the California College of Arts & Crafts (now California College of the Arts), and in 1983 I moved to Madison, Wisconsin, with the intention of making art my life's work.

Since then my work has been exhibited internationally, honored with awards, and purchased for numerous private and corporate collections. In 2001 I moved my home and studio into the rural hills of Black Earth (actually Town of Vermont), fullfilling a lifelong dream to live and work in the country. I am currently an active member of the Mount Horeb Area Arts Association and the Wisconsin Visual Artists.

DEMONSTRATION: I will be working on projects throughout the weekend as follows:
Friday - jewelry | Saturday - origami | Sunday - watercolor

STUDIO ACCESS: My home and studio are on a hill at the top of a circular drive. Visitors are encouraged to drive up rather than walk up. Exhibit areas are on the ground floor and entry is available through the garage (which will be used as a gallery) and an inside doorway. Some art will also be displayed in the stairwell of my home. Refreshments will be served.
