Steve Ballard | assemblage sculpture

Steve Ballard was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, where at the age of 19 he began a career in humorous illustration and advertising design. After moving to Seattle, Washington in 1977, he began exhibiting drawings and paintings, eventually turning to the self-taught medium of assemblage. In 1984 he moved back to Wisconsin where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He has been active with the Northeast Chapter of WP&S/WAAM since 1991, having served as chapter chair, exhibition chair and program director. He has enjoyed participating in several public art projects in Seattle and New York, including “The Gates” by Christo and Jean Claude. Extensive travel in Europe and the Americas has influenced his work, which currently interfaces mythical and tribal imagery with popular cultural icons.
