Gary Gresl | assemblage sculpture
Gary Gresl was born 5/12/43, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He received his BS in Education, at UW Stevens Point, with a Music Minor, and his MS from the Related Art Department of the School of Family Resources and Consumer Sciences, at UW Madison. He taught at Brillion Public Schools, plus the UW System and Mount Mary adult extension classes, as well as being a lecturer on art and antiques. Gresl has served four terms as President of Wisconsin Painters & Sculptors, Inc. and on the State Board for over two decades. He has been manager and owner of a retail business, Milwaukee Antique Center, in Milwaukee for 31 years.
As originator of the Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Awards, he has worked closely with the Museum of Wisconsin Art and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. He is creator and author of the bi-monthly column, The Regional Art Junkie, which appears in the Art in Wisconsin publication, and he has done work for other publications as well.
Gresl has served as juror and panel member for art exhibitions, discussions and visual arts activities. His record of exhibitions and awards received is extensive, including the recent $15,000 Mary Nohl Fellowship Award offered through the Peck School of the Arts, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
