Katherine Steichen Rosing | acrylic painting
Rosings work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across the United States, Germany, Japan, and China including solo exhibitions at The Arts Club in Washington D.C., West Bend Art Museum, in Wisconsin, and ARC Gallery in Chicago. Themes of transformation and change are explored in her abstract, symbolic paintings, using nature as a metaphor for life. Ripples on ponds, forests in rain, and rhythmic patterns of tree trunks are a frequent theme explored in Rosings work. Sun through Rain, a film by renowned Japanese film maker, Akira Kurasawa, was the original inspiration for the forest series and instigated her obsession with forest patterns. Surfaces are developed in layers for quiet observation of the interaction of pigment and texture. Katherine Rosing has been teaching studio art for 15 years and is a faculty member in the art department at Madison Area Technical College. She earned an MFA in Painting & Drawing from Northern Illinois UniversityDeKalb in 1992. In addition to teaching, Rosing served for two years as Exhibition Curator and Vice-President of A.R.C. Gallery/Educational Foundation in Chicago. In 1995, she represented A.R.C. Gallery on a panel of artists at the NGO Forum of the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing (Huairou,) China.
